18 years ago today, on September 11th, 2001, 2,977 lives were taken by the devastating attacks of 9/11. Over 6,000 people were injured during this time. Also, more than 90 countries lost their citizens in the attacks, including the United Kingdom with 67 deaths, the Dominican Republic with 47 deaths, & India with 41 deaths. The immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes (including the terrorists), 2,606 in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area, & 125 at the Pentagon. As of August 2013, medical authorities concluded that 1,140 people who worked, lived, or studied in Lower Manhattan at the time of the attack have been diagnosed with cancer as a result of “exposure to toxins at Ground Zero”. This was also the single worst and most devastating foreign attack on the United States since the Pearl Harbor attacks on December 7th, 1941. Our thoughts and prayers go out the civilians who perished during this tragic time. We also pray for those who worked, lived, or studied in Lower Manhattan during this devastating time, for they have been diagnosed with cancer as of August 2013. And now, for a moment of silence as all their souls rest in heavenly peace.
